From her childhood home at 1126 Ormsby Place to the stage at Grandview Heights High School to the footlights of the Metropolitan Opera and beyond, Theresa Cincione has impressed opera lovers all over the world with her amazing soprano voice.

Theresa, the daughter of Alphonse and Judi Cincione, displayed a talent for singing as a child. At Grandview Heights High School, Theresa was involved in every musical group at the school, including the band, which won a “Superior” at a state contest in 1981. After graduation in 1982, Theresa received her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music.

Some of the roles she has performed include Mimi in La Boheme, Micaela in Carmen, Margerite in Faust, Liu in Turandot, Susanna and La Contessa di Alamaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Pamina in The Magic Flute, and Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly. In addition to Opera/Columbus, venues featuring Theresa have included Seattle, Chicago, Houston, Chicago, Flanders (Belgium), Taipei (Taiwan), Grand Rapids, and Indianapolis. Audiences at New York’s Metropolitan Opera (the Met) were privileged to hear Theresa many times from 1991 to 2003 when she sang principal roles in operas such as Elektra, Carmen, Manon, Stiffelio, Death in Venice, Ghosts of Versailles, Idomeneo, War and Peace, and Rigoletto. At the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Theresa has covered Renee Fleming as Alcina in Alcina and as Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg.

Although Theresa has performed all around the world, she notes that the stage at the Met had its own brand of excitement.

Of course, it’s a thrill to perform at the Metropolitan Opera. It’s incredible to be around so many talented people and see how they do things,” she said. “

Theresa maintains two careers: music and Assistant Vice President at Morgan Stanley in New York, where she makes her home. Theresa has not forgotten her Central Ohio roots and has returned frequently to perform in Columbus, including Christmas Mass at St. Christopher Church and special events with the Columbus Symphony. Theresa’s next local appearance will be on April 2, 2023, when she will perform with the Camarata Orchestra at St. Mary Catholic Church in German Village. The program will feature Mozart in A Major and Handel arias.
