Marble Cliff Highlights

Marble Cliff was one of the first suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, settled as a community in 1890 and incorporated as the "Hamlet of Marble Cliff" in 1901. It took its name from the Marble Cliff Quarry Co. located nearby. The village was a bucolic retreat for wealthy Columbus residents to get away (and upwind) from the smelly industrial city. The first country club in central Ohio was established in Marble Cliff and its more famous residents have included Samuel Prescott Bush, patriarch of the Bush family, Carl Hoster of the Hoster Family Brewery dynasty, and Sylvio Casparis, owner of the Marble Cliff Quarry Co. who pioneered the use of reinforced concrete for residential use. The village boasts 10 homes designed by renowned Ohio architect Frank Packard, including one on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, Marble Cliff retains much of its natural quaintness, yet still provides a thriving environment for its 600 residents and almost 50 businesses.
