Inspiring Women

Tour Length:  2 miles

Did you know that a woman gave Grandview Heights its name? It’s true! Alice Urlin and her husband George Cambridge Urlin lived in a stunning mansion on Urlin Avenue at Goodale Boulevard, where Summit Chase condominiums now stand.

The mansion sat high on the hill facing downtown Columbus. In looking out from the tower of their new home built in 1890, Alice exclaimed “What a Grand View!” And the name stuck.

While Alice’s exclamation shaped our local entity, many female residents of Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff have made notable impacts well beyond our communities.

Learn about a few of these inspiring women who are a part of our story on this History Walks tour.
